Wireless Internet Access for Patients

The Wireless Internet Access for Patients (WIAP) project enables patients and their family members at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center to use donated and personally owned computers to connect to the internet from their hospital rooms and public areas.

WIAP access is currently available in the Spinal Cord Injury Rehab unit, the Burn Center, and the Rehab Trauma Center. As a result, patients are able to connect with the outside world, keeping in touch with friends, family, and employers. Patients are able to try out adaptive technologies such as voice recognition, and can connect to online resources such as the Department of Rehabilitation and Project Hired. Family members can also use the WIAP to stay in touch with the outside world while visiting patients at the hospital.
